Bikini Photoshoot at a Villa in Nha Trang | Pool & Flash Lighting

We photographed this series at a villa with an Asian model who already had experience in front of the camera and understood posing well. That meant I did not need to explain every body position in detail and could concentrate more on composition, camera angle and lighting, using the pool, villa architecture and tropical greenery as part of the image.

Almost the entire session was photographed with controlled flash. This is exactly why I like working with it in bright tropical conditions: I do not have to choose between a well-lit subject and a good-looking background. I can control the light on the model separately while still keeping rich color in the water, greenery and surroundings instead of ending up with a washed-out background or deep shadows on the face.

Flash here is not meant to make the photographs look like studio images. The goal is the opposite — to keep the feeling of a real villa, pool and sunny day while making the light on the person more controlled and expressive. That gives the series a bright, contrasty look while still keeping the environment as an important part of the photograph.
