Individual photoshoot in Nha Trang on an overcast day: beach, rocks, tropical greenery, rain and expressive natural portraits
Overcast Day Photoshoot in Nha Trang | Beach, Rain & Portraits
We photographed this session together with a photographer friend. He stayed closer to her, talked to her and worked with a wide-angle lens, while I photographed from a little farther away with a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8. This allowed me to interfere less and concentrate on catching expressions, movement and small moments between his directions.
She is also a photographer, so she understood very well what was happening on the other side of the camera. She was comfortable working with emotion and could easily change the mood of a portrait — from quiet and thoughtful to more open and playful. During one session we used the rocky shoreline, beach, tropical greenery and a sheltered spot by the sea when the rain started, as well as several different looks.
The overcast weather helped rather than hurt the shoot. The light was soft and even, without harsh sunlight or deep shadows, while the grey sea, humid air and rain gave the series a very different atmosphere from a typical sunny beach photoshoot. For me, this is a good example of how expressive individual portraits in Nha Trang do not depend on perfect weather — sometimes clouds and rain make the photographs more interesting.
