This session had a very different rhythm because the woman I photographed is a dancer and already has a strong sense of body line, balance and movement. I did not need to explain every detail of where to place her hands or how to shape a pose. I could simply give her a direction, choose the location and light, and let her work naturally in front of the camera.
We photographed on the beach, among dark coastal rocks and around small natural rock pools. These locations require careful choice of angle, but they also create very different types of images — from quieter portraits by the water to more graphic compositions where body line and movement become an important part of the frame.
Another advantage of dance experience is confidence in an open location. She was comfortable moving and posing even with other people around, so the session stayed fluid and did not need constant stops or repeated instructions.
